The health authority also recorded 31 more deaths from the disease during that time, bringing the fatalities to 6,838.

The mortality rate, however, is still 1.43%, said the Directorate General of Health Services.

Bangladesh is now the 26th worst-hit country in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

So far, 395, 960 patients – 82.92% – including 2,552 new ones in the last 24 hours have recovered.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The infection number reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18, and the death toll exceeded 6,000 on November 4.

Up to now, 2,863,169 tests have been carried out, including 13,315 new ones, and 16.68% of the patients turned out to be positive. And the daily infection rate stood at 12.60%.

Bangladesh is experiencing 2804.03 infections, 2324.99 recoveries, and 40.15 deaths per million.

Global picture

The global Covid-19 cases have crossed 66.5 million, while deaths have surged past 1.5 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The total worldwide caseload reached 66,504,022 while the death toll climbed to 1,528,373 up to early Sunday.

The US is the worst-hit country with 14,581,336 cases and 281,173 deaths.

Daily infections in the country set a new record high of nearly 228,000 cases on Friday, according to AP.

The vast region of the US state of California, including Southern California and parts of Central California, will enter a new stay-at-home order on Sunday night, as many parts of the state have hit the 15% or lower threshold for intensive care unit (ICU) capacity amid Covid-19 surge, local health authorities said Saturday.

India had the second-highest cases of 9,608,211, while the country's death toll soared to 139,700.

Brazil's caseload reached 6,577,177 while some 176,628 people have died so far.

Countries which have more than a million confirmed cases now are Russia, France, the UK, Italy and Spain, Johns Hopkins University data showed.
