Around 150 shanties were burned down after a fire broke out in Maniknagar area of the capital on Sunday afternoon.
The fire occurred around 3:20pm at a tin-shed house in Cumilla Potti, said Lima Khanam, Duty Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

Seven firefighting units brought the fire under control at around 4:45pm, said Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.
Fire fighters managed to extinguished the flame at 6:10pm, she added.

The cause of the fire could not be known immediately, Lima said.
No casualty was reported, said Pronoy Kumar, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station.
