The possibility of rainfall on Eid-ul-Fitr in Bangladesh is almost insignificant, with only a slight chance of drizzles in isolated areas of the Chattogram division, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Talking to UNB on Saturday afternoon, Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist at BMD, said the probability of rainfall remains very low across the country. “There might be some very light rain in a few places in the Chattogram division, but it is not significant,” he said.
This year, Ramadan began on March 2 in Bangladesh. If the Shawwal moon is sighted on Sunday, the month of fasting will conclude with 29 days, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Monday. If the moon is not sighted, fasting will continue for 30 days, and Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday.
When asked about the weather conditions on Eid day, Dr Mallik reiterated, “The chances of rain are minimal. There is only a slight possibility of very light rain in parts of Chattogram, but other divisions are unlikely to experience any rainfall.”
Ramadan may extend to 30 days, Eid likely on Monday in Saudi Arabia
He also said although the possibility of rain is low, localised thunderclouds could develop unpredictably, leading to sporadic rain showers in some areas. “Such developments cannot be predicted in advance, but they remain a possibility,” he added.
The meteorologist advised the public to keep an eye on daily weather updates from BMD to stay informed. “Since the exact date of Eid depends on moon sighting, everyone should also follow the daily forecasts for any last-minute changes in weather conditions. As of now, however, the probability of rainfall on Eid day is around 10 to 15 per cent, while there is an 80 per cent chance of dry weather.”
The official weather forecast for Monday (March 31) indicates that skies across Bangladesh will remain partly cloudy, with overall dry conditions.
Daytime temperatures may drop slightly, while night-time temperatures could experience a minor increase. The extended five-day forecast suggests only slight variations in weather conditions beyond Eid.
With mostly dry weather expected, Bangladeshis can look forward to an uninterrupted and comfortable Eid celebration.
