The Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged the discussion remembering freedom fighter and veteran diplomat Muazzem Ali who was laid to eternal rest in state honour on January 1.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, former Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, former diplomat Farooq Sobhan and former Foreign Secretaries, including Md Touhid Hossain, spoke at the discussion held at the ministry.
They shared their personal experiences with Muazzem Ali showing much respect to him.
Muazzem Ali was “a very capable diplomat” who had a “very high acceptability” and had always been a fully committed person and a good soul, the speakers said.
They said the nation will always remember him for his contributions during the War of Liberation in 1971.
Muazzem Ali’s family members, including wife and son, were present at the programme.
In Paris, Muazzem Ali was also Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to Unesco.
In that capacity, he tabled a draft resolution on behalf of Bangladesh for the proclamation of February 21 as the International Mother Language Day.
He spearheaded the lobbying efforts and its unanimous adoption by the Unesco General Conference in 1999.
