Five students of a madrasah were killed and five others injured in a landslide in Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Wednesday, triggered by incessant rainfall.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Panna Akter said the incident took place at the Sub-Block A-3 of Kutupalong Rohingya camp around 3:00pm when a big chunk of mud fell on the roof of the madrasah amid rain, leaving five students dead.
Locals recovered the bodies of the five students and rescued several others trapped inside the mud. Of them, five were admitted to local hospital.
The incident occurred three days after nine people, including seven members of two families, were killed in landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the district in the early hours of June 6.
With this, a total of 14 people died in separate landslides in the district in three days.
