Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus came up with the instruction at a coordination meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Tuesday, said a PMO media release.
Dr Kaikaus also directed them to discharge their responsibilities properly on overall issues, including transportation of products, distribution of relief materials and storing food grains alongside protection of flood control embankments and river erosion as well as ensuring health services.
He called upon all concerned to quickly estimate the probable losses caused to fisheries and livestock sector, and implement directives of the Prime Minister on rehabilitation and providing incentives in these sectors.
The Principal Secretary also gave directives for taking necessary preparations in advance as there is a fear of further deterioration in the flood situation during the Eid-ul-Azha vacation.
The meeting reviewed the country’s ongoing flood situation, relief and rehabilitation programmes, shelter centre management, rescue operation, assessment of losses and damages caused by flood in agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors, and the overall flood management.
As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Dr Ahmad Kaikaus asked the officials concerned to take steps to ensure transportation and communications, check riverbank erosion, and ensure health services, transportation of goods, relief distribution and food security in the flood-affected areas.
He said the Prime Minister has already instructed to assess the losses caused to the agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors due to flooding and provide incentives to these sectors.
The Principal Secretary urged the officials concerned to implement the instructions of the Prime Minister at the shortest possible time.
Senior secretaries of the Water Resources Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry, and the secretaries of the PMO, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry and the Food Ministry as well as Director General of the Directorate of Disaster Management took part in the meeting.
