In Dhaka, two people, Pannu Mia, 58, and Faisal, 40, suffering from cold and fever, died in Keraniganj and Nawabganj upazilas on Monday.
Pannu Mia, 58, a rickshaw-puller, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka, died around 11:50pm, said Health and Family Planning Officer of Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex Dr Mohammad Shahidul Islam.
Pannu with cough, fever and respiratory problem went to the hospital on Monday afternoon, he said, adding that he was sent to the ICU unit as his condition deteriorated.
As Pannu’s condition worsened further, he was sent to Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital at Uttara in the capital where he died.
Besides, three people, including an elderly man aged about 85, have been kept at the isolation unit of Nababganj Upazila Health Complex, said Dr Shahidul.
Besides, Faisal, son of Nasir Uddin of Mandail, had been suffering from fever and cold for the last 20 days.
Family members took him to different hospitals in Dhaka but failed to admit him to any of them. He died on Monday evening.
Kazi Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station, said they have heard about the death of Faisal.
In Pirojpur, a student who appeared at this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination, died at Dakkhin Purba Dhawa village in Bhandaria upazila on Tuesday after suffering from fever, cold and sore throat.
The deceased was identified as Sabuj Hawladar, 17, son of Aziz Hawladar of the village.
Dr HM Zahirul Islam, a health officer of Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex, said Sabuj had been suffering from fever, cold, cough and sore throat for the last four days.
When his family informed the matter to the hospital over phone in the morning, the authorities concerned asked them to take Sabuj to the hospital, he said, adding that but family members kept him at home where he died in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Sabuj’s samples were sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka for determining whether he was infected with coronavirus or not.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Bhandaria Nazmul Alam said the local administration put the whole village under lockdown following the death of the boy.
In Sylhet, a teenage girl who had been suffering from fever, cough and sore throat died at the isolation unit of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in Sylhet on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Julefa Begum, 16, hailing from Jalalpur village of Balaganj upazila.
Dr Premananda Mondal, civil surgeon of the district, said the girl died around 2pm just three hours after she was admitted to the hospital. “We’ll send throat swab of the deceased to Dhaka for test,” he added.
Meanwhile, Assistant Director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Dr Himangshu Lal Roy claimed the death to be a natural one.
“The body will be handed over to the family as per the regular practice,” he added.
Few days ago, an overseas returnee died while being treated at the isolation unit of the hospital. But she tested negative for Covid-19 later.
Two more people have tested positive in Bangladesh for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 51.
Of them, 21 patients are currently under treatment while five died and 25 others have made recovery.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from COVID-19 disease caused by coronavirus jumped to 37,814 as of Tuesday.
