He made the remark while talking to reporters in the city’s Dhanmondi area after paying homage at the portrait of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman soon after taking over charge.
“We all are responsible for the corruption (in the health sector). It’ll be stupidity if we point the finger only at the government for the situation. We all are part of this graft,” said the new chief of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DG also laid emphasis on personal honesty to check the corruption, saying, “There’s no way to contain corruption if we’re not personally honest.”
Asked about the apparent challenges, Dr Abul Bashar said, “Definitely, there’re big challenges. I’ll try my best to overcome the problems in the health sector.”
He sought the blessings and cooperation of all in fulfilling the responsibility given to him by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dr Bashar urged all to point out government's mistakes in addition to highlighting its good works.
Dr Abul Bashar, a professor of Dhaka Medical College, was appointed director general of the DGHS on Thursday.
