Benapole, Sept 30 (UNB) - The first consignment of hilsa to be exported to India on the occasion of Durga Puja was sent to the neighbouring country through Benapole port on Monday afternoon.
Some 30,560 kgs of hilsa were exported in the first shipment, said Uttam Chakma, assistant commissioner of Benapole Customs House.
Aquatic Resources Ltd of Dhaka is exporting hilsa at US$6 per kg to Naj Impex India Pvt of Kolkata.
A total of 500 tonnes of hilsa will reach West Bengal within October 10 in several phrases through the Benapole port.
On September 25, the Commerce Ministry allowed the export of highest 500 tonnes of hilsa to India as a gesture of goodwill on the occasion of the five-day Durga Puja which is set to begin on October 4 next.
