An HSC examinee drowned in a swimming pool in the city’s Demra area on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Md. Shakib Hossain, 22, a student of Dania College and a resident of Dania Borobari area in Kadamtali and son of Md Arif Hossain .
The incident occurred around 2:15 pm at ‘Shamsi Gallery’ swimming pool in Konapara Balurmath area.
Vctim's classmate, Ifad, said a group of 15 to 16 friends went to Shamsi Gallery’ swimming pool in Konapara Balurmath area for a swim.
Shakib did not know how to swim, so we told him to stay in a shallow, safe area of the pool. However, while the rest of us were distracted, he unknowingly moved into deeper water and drowned,’’ Ifad said.
Upon realising he was missing, his friends rescued him in an unconscious state and rushed him to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the attending physician declared him dead.
Inspector Md Faruk said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the concerned police station has been informed.
