“The minister was admitted to Square Hospitals in the city on Friday as he tested positive for Covid-19,” his personal assistant Kaisarul Alam told UNB.
Kaisar, however, said Minister Mahmud is doing well.
The minister requested all to pray for him for his early recovery, said Kaisar.
Bangladesh ministers infected with Covid
A number of ministers and state ministers have been infected with Covid-19 since its outbreak in the country on March 8.
Many of them have already recovered from the deadly virus while one state minister died of its infection.
Planning Minister MA Mannan was diagnosed with Coronavirus on October 13 and is undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury was diagnosed with coronavirus on September 16, while Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin tested positive for Covid-19 on August 12.
Meanwhile, Minister Shahab Uddin recovered from the virus and was released from the CMH on August 20.
State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk contracted Covid-19 on July 1 and his test report came out negative on July 18.
On June 17, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi was found infected with coronavirus.
Tested positive for Covid-19, State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Md Abdullah died at the CMH on June 14.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque was diagnosed with Covid-19 on June 12.
On June 8, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing was found infected with Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh reported 1,527 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total caseload to 386,086 as of Friday.
During the period, 15 coronavirus deaths were recorded, pushing up the death tally to 5,623.
In Bangladesh, the first three cases of coronavirus infection were on March 8. The cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26.
The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on September 22.
