Dhaka, Oct 7 (UNB) - A court here on Sunday extended the bail of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia till October 14 in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of Special Judge Court-5 passed the order as Khaleda's lawyer filed a petition seeking an extension of her bail.
Khaleda’s lawyers also responded to a show cause notice issued by the court on September 30 seeking an explanation as to why the bail of Khaleda Zia won't be declared illegal in the case.
The BNP chairperson is now under treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) under a special medical board formed by the government.
She has been serving five years' rigorous imprisonment at Old Central Jail, as she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last.
On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
