A bout of heavy rain lashed the capital city on Monday afternoon triggering water-logging in many areas and causing sufferings to commuters, including students.

Streets in parts of the city, including Mouchak, Bijoy Saranari and Kakrail, went under water disrupting transports.

Caught in the sudden rain many were seen wading through water for lack of vehicles. Some opened their umbrellas, while others took shelter in open spaces under flyovers.

In Mouchak and Siddeshwari areas, many school and college students ventured into the streets braving the downpour and got soaked.

The Met office recorded one millimeter of rainfall in the capital until 3 pm, said meteorologist Afroza Sultana.

The northeastern Sylhet, meanwhile, experienced heavy rains with the weather office recording 124 mm of rainfall in the district alone from 6 am to 12 pm Monday.

Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay, said a Met office bulletin.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country, it said.

Rainfall activity may decrease in next three days, it added.

The weather office recorded the highest 56 mm rainfall in Dimla of Rangpur division in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.

The highest temperature was recorded at 35.4 degrees Celsius in Jashore of Khulna division, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 23.5 degrees in Rajarhat of Rangpur division.
