Late monsoon rains disrupt life in capital city
A bout of heavy rain lashed the capital city on Monday afternoon triggering water-logging in many areas and causing sufferings to commuters, including students.
Streets in parts of the city, including Mouchak, Bijoy Saranari and Kakrail, went under water disrupting transports.
Caught in the sudden rain many were seen wading through water for lack of vehicles. Some opened their umbrellas, while others took shelter in open spaces under flyovers.

Rains likely to quell heat in Bangladesh
As high temperatures continue to bake large parts of Bangladesh, the weather department has predicted showers across the country in the next 24 hours.
"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over northern part of the country", the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its forecast on Tuesday.

The Met office recorded the highest 59mm of rainfall in Mymensingh district in 24 hours till 6am on Tuesday.
The mercury reached 36.5 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Rajshahi, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees in Rangpur and Chattogram divisions.
Meanwhile, the axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal to Assam across central parts of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate elsewhere over the North Bay, as per the bulletin.

Brace for showers with intense lightning: Met Office
Showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur across the country in the next 24 hours as the Cyclonic Storm “Asani” over Southeast Bay and adjoining South Andaman Sea moves Northwestwards.
According to Met Office, “Showers are likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions along with one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, & Dhaka divisions.”
Meanwhile a mild Heat Wave is sweeping over Sylhet division and the districts of Madaripur, Rangamati, Cumilla, M. Court, Feni, Khulna and Jashore and it may abate from some places, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department in a bulletin.

It said day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
In an extended outlook for the next three days BMD said “Thundershowers activity may increase”.
The cyclone was centered at noon on Sunday about 1205 Kms South-Southwest of Chattogram port, 1125 kms South-Southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1185 kms South of Mongla port and 1145 kms South of Payra port, said a Met office bulletin .
It is likely to intensify further and move in a Northwesterly direction, it said.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 Kms of the cyclonic storm centre is about 62 Kph rising to 88 Kph in gusts or squalls.
Sea will remain very rough near the cyclonic center.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant warning signal No 2.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution.
They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
