He said the corrupt people would be brought to justice.

The ACC chief made the remarks after he was informed of the progress of the anti-graft body’s legal actions against those involved in embezzlement of relief goods, including foodstuffs, under the government’s relief programmes amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Mentioning that all channels for reporting corruption are open, he said information coming from media, social media and intelligence of ACC are being analysed.

After receiving specific allegations, the ACC filed a number of cases against people involved in relief plundering in different parts of the country and some people were arrested in those cases, said Mahmood.

Meanwhile, the ACC chairman said that no matter how difficult the time is, there is no alternative to taking legal action in case of corruption. 

Regarding the activities of the vigilance team formed by the commission to run the office in compliance with the health guidelines during the coronavirus outbreak, he said that the ACC had taken various precautionary measures, including installation of thermal scanner and distribution of hand sanitiser among its officials, to prevent the spread of virus.

“Even then, unfortunately, two officials of the commission died of coronavirus,” said the ACC chairman, expressing grief and sorrow over their deaths and wishing a speedy recovery to those who are infected and undergoing treatment.

He urged the ACC officials to maintain social distancing and follow health guidelines while working.

Nineteen cases were filed in different parts of the country over irregularities and corruption during the general holidays and most of the accused have been arrested in these cases.
