A man died after allegedly being hit with a hammer by his second wife during a family dispute in Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi on Thursday evening.
The deceased was identified as Khairul Islam Palash, a resident of Jurain in the capital.
Locals said Palash had come to Kathalia a few days ago and had been living with his second wife, Israt Jahan Liza, at her house, where he had also started a business.
The couple has two daughters, aged four and one and a half years.
They had been having disputes over various family matters, locals said.
During an argument on Thursday afternoon, Liza allegedly hit Palash with a hammer, leaving him seriously injured.
Locals rescued him and took him to Kathalia Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal, where doctors declared him dead.
Police later arrested Liza in connection with the incident.
Officer-in-Charge of Kathalia Police Station Md Abu Naser Raihan said police were investigating the incident.
