Police recovered the hanging body of a young man from an apartment on Rampasha road in Bishwanath, Sylhet Sunday.
The deceased, Abdul Mukit, 35, was the son of Abdus Shahid from Mirerchar village in Bishwanath upazila.
Bishwanath Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that the incident appeared to be a suicide. However, the body has been sent for an autopsy, and police are investigating further.
According to police sources, Mukitâs family informed them about the incident, leading to the recovery of the body around 4:30am on Sunday. His body was found hanging from a mosquito net stand with a rope around his neck inside the apartment.
Family members said Mukit worked at a supermarket in Bishwanath area. His expatriate sister owned the apartment on Rampasha Road, which had no tenants, and Mukit was responsible for its upkeep.
On Saturday night, Mukit did not return home, prompting his family to start searching for him. During the Sehri, they learned from the security guard that the apartmentâs lights were on.

Upon arriving, they found the door locked from the inside, but a window glass beside the door was open. By reaching through the window, they managed to unlock the door and discovered Mukitâs body hanging inside the room.
Family members suspect foul play, claiming it was a murder.
âIf the family files a case, legal action will be taken accordingly,â said the OC.
