Three members of the committee are accused of being involved in the attack on the residence of Awami League’s Faridpur unit president, claimed the disgruntled faction.
BCL’s central body gave partial approval to the 25-member committee led by President Tamjidul Rashid Chowdhury Riyan and General Secretary Faim Ahmed on Jan 19 for one year.
Ten BCL activists, including former organising secretary Asif Imtiaz and publicity secretary Sajidul Islam, sent the written complaint to BCL central committee, central Awami League, the party’s Faridpur unit and Faridpur Press Club.

They alleged that Riyan is married and his brother-in-law Syed Adnan Hossain Onu is the incumbent president of Chhatra Dal’s Faridpur unit. His father was an executive member of BNP’s executive committee.
Moreover, Riyan’s family were supporters of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, according to the complaint.
BCL’s charter does not allow any married person to hold a committee post.
Two vice-presidents and a joint general secretary of the new committee were involved in the attack on district Awami League President Subol Chandra Saha, according to the complaint.

There are nine vice-presidents, seven assistant general secretaries and seven organising secretaries in the newly-approved committee.
Riyan has rejected the allegation brought against him.
“I’m not married,” he said. “My family is pro-AL and my brother-in-law did not hold any post when he got married.”
Faridpur AL chief Subol said traditionally, opinions and proposals are sought from the party’s district unit when forming committees of other affiliate bodies. “But this time they sidestepped us. They should have taken our opinion,” he said.

BCL’s central committee General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee said the allegation about Riyan being married is false.
About those allegedly involved in attacking Subol’s residence, he said: “We’ll drop them from the committee if the allegation against them is proven.”
