“Polythene and petroleum products pose a threat to our environment and there is no alternative to perishable jute. People should increase the usage of the environment- friendly jute made products,” he said.
The Home Minister was speaking at a seminar titled ‘Strengthening of Jute Fiber for Composite Applications’ organized by the Department of Textile Engineering at the Engineers Institution of Bangladesh (IEB) at the Council Hall at IEB Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon
Stressing the importance of increasing the use of jute goods, Kamal said the government has taken numerous initiatives to bring back the golden days of jute and its products.

He said, ensuring the versatile use of jute will play an important role in strengthening the economy of the country as well.
Kamal said jute fiber used to be the most lucrative crop of Bangladesh, and the industry is regaining its reputation again. He remembered the golden age of the golden fiber and said we should try heart and soul to bring back the status of jute fiber.

Home Minister spoke as the chief guest at the online seminar. Bangladesh Awami League Secretary for Science and Technology and former IEB President Engr Md. Abdus Sabur, Bangabandhu Textile Engineering Association President Engr Md Mozaffar Hossain, Secretary to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Lokman Hossain Mia, President of IEB Engr Md Nurul Huda, Vice President of IEB (HRD) Engr Md. Nuruzzaman, ITET president Engr Md Shofiqur Rahman, former Chairman of IEB from Department of Textile Engineering SM Sirajul Islam was also present in the seminar.

IEB Honorary General Secretary Md. Shahadat Hossain Shiblu, (P. Eng) presented the welcome speech where Chairman of the Department of Textile Engineering, IEB Engr Masudur Rahman presided over the function.

ENGR Forkan Sarkar, Associate Professor of Textile Department in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), offered the keynote address at the seminar.
