State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk speaks after visiting Amphan-damaged areas in Khulna
State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk on Friday urged the countrymen to plant trees on river banks to save homesteads.
“I’ve visited Koyra, Assasuni and Shyamnagar upazilas and found less damages in areas with trees. Since Bangladesh is a riverine country, I'drequest all to plant trees on the banks of rivers and canals so that homes are protected,” he said after visiting cyclone Amphan-damaged embankments in Khulna.
State Minister Faruk revealed that a new project worth Tk 1,200 crore is being undertaken for Dacope Upazila in Khulna.
“We’ll start work as soon as possible on the completion of necessary formalities,” he added.
Md Akhtaruzzaman Babu, MP from Khulna-6 constituency, Panchanan Biswas, MP from Khulna-1, Habibur Rahman, additional director general of Bangladesh Water Development Board, among others, were present at the occasion.
