According to sources at Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) and Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd (Desco), electricity distribution lines in many areas tripped as uprooted tress and their branches fell on them during the storms that hit the two cities twice, at 2am and 6am.
The main affected areas by the storm include Basabo, Banasri, Goran, Dhanmondi and Narayanganj, said Bikash Dewan, Managing Director of DPDC.
He, however, said all the affected lines were repaired and power supply was restored by 9:30am.
“Now power supply in all the areas under DPDC remains normal," he told UNB.
Desco Director (operation) Noor Mohammad informed that some minor disruptions were reported in the areas controlled by his organisation.
“Power supply was disrupted in some areas for a very short period but they were restored quickly," he said.
He also informed that a major disruption took place at 6:15am when 132 kV grid line from Tongi-Uttara sector -12 tripped during the storm.
“But we managed to resume power supply in Uttara within 8 minutes by receiving electricity through an alternative lines from Mirpur grid substation," he added.
