In Faridpur, two septuagenarian men, who had been suffering from fever and cold, have died at the isolation unit of Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The deceased were identified as Abu Sheikh, 70, of Murardia village in Madhukhali upazila, and Abdus Salam Matubbar of Raipara Sadardi village in Bhanga upazila of the district.
Civil Surgeon Dr Siddiqur Rahman said Abu Sheikh had been suffering from fever, pneumonia and kidney disease for long. He died at the isolation ward of the hospital on Sunday night.
Abdus Salam had been suffering from respiratory problems and liver disease. He died at the isolation ward of the hospital on Monday, the civil surgeon said.
Samples were collected from the two victims for test, he said. Local administration also kept 6-7 houses in their respective villages under lockdown.
In Barishal, a man who was suffering from fever, sore throat and respiratory problems died 20 minutes after he was admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.
The 50-year-old man of Taltali Rari Mahal area under Kaunia Police Station of the city was admitted to the hospital around 5:10pm and he died around 5:30pm, said Dr Bakir Hossain, director of the hospital.
He was taken to the hospital’s emergency unit around 4:50pm and later he was sent to the coronavirus unit, he said.
Samples were collected from the deceased and those will be sent to Dhaka to ascertain whether he had been infected with coronavirus, Dr Bakir said.
Meanwhile, Barishal Deputy Commissioner Ajiar Rahman said they were working to bring the house of the deceased under lockdown.
Three people have so far died at the coronavirus unit of the hospital while nine others are undergoing treatment there.
In Cumilla, a 55-year old man, Shafique Mia, 55, of Brahmanbaria died from fever in a room of Bijoypur School in Sadar Dakkhin upazila.
Local union parishad chairman Selim Ahmed said about 65 farmers took shelter in Bijoypur School after the vehicular movement was halted following the nationwide shutdown.
Shafique caught fever and died on Monday from the illness, he added.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Md Abul Fazal Meer directed Sadar Dakkhin Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Keyam Uddin to provide food and shelter to the farmers.
UNO Shafique said the victim was physically weak and they have collected samples from the deceased and sent to Dhaka for confirmation whether he had been infected with the coronavirus.
In Chattogram, a freedom fighter and a young man have died at separate hospitals here with respiratory problems and cough.
Of them, the freedom fighter succumbed to breathing complications at Chittagong General Hospital on Monday afternoon while the youth died of respiratory problems and cough at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Sunday night.
Civil Surgeon of the district Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi Mia said FF Alimullah, 72, of Sitakunda upazila, had been suffering from breathing complications.
He died around 3pm while undergoing treatment, said Dr Ashim Kumar, coordinator of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old youth was first admitted to Anwara Upazila Health Complex on Sunday morning and died soon after he was taken to the CMCH at night, said Dr Aftabul Islam, deputy director of the hospital.
Samples of both the deceased were collected and sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research in Dhaka for test.
Meanwhile, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Jobayer Ahmed said they have kept the house of the deceased under lockdown in Shilaigora Para area.
Considering the safety of 100 families in the area, local administration restricted the entry and exit to and from the area, he added.
Bangladesh on Monday reported three more deaths taking the number to 12.
Besides, 35 more people were infected with coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the number to 123.
