A man has accused his rivals of cutting down 250 banana and Mehagni trees in Derua village in Magura Sadar Upazila on early Thursday.
Yaad Ali, the farmer, said he had been at loggerheads with Mohsin Biswas, an influential local, for protesting against the latter’s suppression of the poor villagers.
“Mohsin and his associates came to the orchard in the early hours of Thursday and felled 200 banana and 50 Mehgani trees,” Ali claimed, adding that he would file a case.
Mohsin could not be reached for comments.
Saidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the local police station, told UNB that they had heard about the incident. “We’re yet to get a written complaint,” he said.
