“He’ll be missed by all his friends in India,” Gokhale wrote in a condolence book opened at Bangladesh High Commission for the diplomatic community to pay last respect to the late envoy.
Gokhale also writes: “We, in the Ministry of External Affairs, are deeply grieved at the demise of High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali. Our sincere condolences to his family and to all his colleagues in Bangladesh.”
The condolence book will remain open for three days until Thursday, January 2, on the second floor of the chancery, said the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
Besides, the mission will hold a condolence meeting in remembrance of Syed Muazzem Ali at 4 pm on Friday, January, 3 at the chancery’s Maitree Hall.
Earlier on Monday, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr J Jaishankar expressed deep shock at the death Syed Muazzem Ali.
"Deeply shocked to learn of the passing away of former High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali," Jaishankar tweeted.
He said Muazzem Ali was a good friend and a strong partner for so many of them. "Our thoughts are with Tuhfa and family."
Muazzem Ali will be given guard of honor at State guesthouse Padma on Wednesday as his first namaj-e-janaza will be held there at 10:30am.
His second namaj-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Zuhr prayers on the same day, an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told UNB.
He will be buried at Banani Graveyard after his second namaj-e-janaza while Qulkhawani will be held on Friday, the official said.
Syed Muazzem, 75, passed away on Monday at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital while undergoing treatment days after he arrived here from New Delhi ending his five-year tenure in India.
