Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam on Thursday said United Hospital had not fire safety arrangement including fire fighters at its extended part where a fire incident left five patients dead on Wednesday night.
Besides, there were 11 fire extinguishers there but eight of those were date-expired, he said after visiting the hospital around 11am
“People get admitted to hospital to recover from disease. It is extremely painful that they died in a fire incident at the hospital,” he said.
The mayor urged the authorities of all hospitals to ensure fire safety.
Five patients at the Coronavirus isolation unit of the city’s United Hospital died on Wednesday night following a fire incident.
