An earthquake shook Dhaka and surrounding areas early Tuesday morning, causing brief panic among residents, although no damage was reported.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the tremor occurred at 6:37:36am and was of moderate intensity.
The epicentre was located near the border with Manipur, approximately 436 kilometres northeast of the BMD seismic monitoring centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The quake measured 5.0 on the Richter scale, based on preliminary readings from the meteorological office.
Although the sudden tremor startled many people in the capital and nearby districts, authorities confirmed that there have been no reports of casualties or structural damage so far.
