Dispute over seating arrangement at the ‘Mujib Borsho’ programme in Shibganj of the district reportedly triggered a factional clash that left at least 10 people injured on Friday.
Locals said that groups belonging to local MP Dr Samil Uddin Ahmed Shimul and Upazila Chairman Syed Nazrul Islam fought running battles over sitting on chair during Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary celebration programme at the Shibganj Upazila Parishad premises at around 5pm.
Police rushed to the spot and charged batons and fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
Atiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Shibganj Police Station, said the brawl erupted over sitting arrangement as the programme venue was small.
He, however, claimed that none was injured in the incident.
