“People have become reluctant about elections as they hardly go to polling stations these days to cast votes. Political parties do politics to serve people by assuming power. And it’s the only election that brings a party back to power,” he said.

GM Quader, also the deputy opposition leader in parliament, said, “But now only one party is winning elections. So, it’s become difficult for other parties to survive in politics.”
He made the remarks while exchanging views with the leaders and activists of Jatiya Party’s Gazipur district unit and its associate bodies at party chairman’s Banani office.
The Jatiya Party chief said their party will take part in the elections whatever the results are. “No one will be left without a challenge in the election. Jatiya Party will be there in the election field till the last moment.”

He also warned that those who will work against the party candidates in the elections will be expelled from Jatiya Party. “The movement in the 90s for ousting a ‘legitimate’ president, HM Ershad, was not legal one,” he added.
GM Quader also said this not right that Ershad captured state power through a coup as the then President in 1982 handed over power to the army being unable to run the country. “Awami League and other political parties, except the ruling BNP, welcomed the power takeover by the army at that time.”
GM Quader, the younger brother of late Ershad, said BNP and Awami League established autocracy by introducing the parliamentary democracy after 1990.

About the coronavirus vaccine, the Jatiya Party chairman renewed his party’s demand for providing vaccine to all citizens of the country for free and urged the government to make public its policy on the Covid vaccine distribution.
