BNP senior leaders on Thursday alleged that the government has killed Krishak Dal leader Sajeeb Hossain in Laxmipur in a planned way to halt the opposition's one-point movement.
In a brief rally, before taking out a mourning procession in front of their Nayapltan central office, they also warned that the blood of Sajeeb will not go in vain.
“There’s no doubt that Sajeeb Hossain was killed in a very cool brain and planned way. This incident happened in broad daylight. The government did it to stop our movement” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He said the government will be held responsible for the killing of the Krishak Dal leader during BNP’s march programme in Laxmipur on Tuesday.
Trashing Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that the election will be held as per the constitution, the BNP leader said people’s verdict will not be reflected if the polls are held in line with the constitution amended by the ruling party.
“People won’t be able to cast their votes in the elections under the Awami League government. So, an-election time neutral government is a must for holding an impartial and participatory election,” Rizvi said.
BNP vice chairman Barkatullah Bulu alleged that the government has so far killed 19 leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies during the anti-government movement.
“Sheikh Hasina's government is targeting BNP leaders as part of their efforts to stop our one-point movement,” he said.
He said the government has got unnerved as their party launched a one-point movement. “The blood of Sajeeb who died in that movement won’t go in vain."

The movement cannot be stopped by resorting to killing enforced disappearances and attacks and cases. “We’ll make this movement a success.”
The BNP leader claimed that all the political parties in the country are united to restore democracy and oust the current regime
He also warned that no election will be allowed to hold under the current Awami League government. “The election must be held under a non-partisan government after reconstituting the Election Commission.”
Dhaka north city unit BNP convener Amanullah Aman alleged that the government wants to perpetuate its power by repressing, killing attacking and disappearing the leaders and activists of opposition parties, including BNP.
“But no conspiracy and repressive cats will work this time. The people of the country have woken up. They'll return home after realising their one-point demand,” he said.
Aman also alleged that Sajeeb was killed in Laxmipur at the behest of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said their party will not retreat from the streets until the fall of this regime. “We’ll force this regime to quit by accepting our one-point demand through our movement.”
Later, they brought out the mourning rally around 4 pm in front of their office protesting the killing of Sajeeb Hossain.

The rally was also meant for registering the party’s protest against the attacks on the march programme of the party and its alliance partners in different parts of the country on Tuesday.
Hundreds of leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies joined the rally wearing black armbands and carrying anti-government slogans.
The rally ended at Fakirapool crossing after parading Kakrail and Nayapaltan areas.
BNP leaders and activists in all metropolitan cities and district towns also brought out the mourning rallies.
BNP leaders and activists will also distribute leaflets among Muslim devotees in mosques across the country after Juma prayers to press home their one-point demand, including the resignation of the government.
As part of their one-point movement, BNP staged countrywide marches, including in the capital on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The party’s march on Tuesday was marked by violent clashes with police and Awami League activists in different parts of the country, killing Sajeeb in Laxmipur and injuring several hundred people.
