According to data from Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the highly contagious Covid-19 disease is yet to infect anyone in Rangamati district.
District administration has been strictly maintaining three-tier security at all four entrances to the district from outside.
Visiting Godarpahar in Kaukhali, Boroichhari in Kaptai, Ghagra Rest House Check Post and Betchhari of Naniarchar areas in the district on Friday, UNB correspondent found police and army maintaining strict vigilance.
They have been prohibiting vehicles, except daily essentials-carrying ones, from entering the district.
Additionally, the administration has been checking the health of drivers of all vehicles allowed to enter, as well as the helpers of all of those vehicles and barring anyone with any symptoms from entering.
Visiting weekly bazaar in Rangamati town on Saturday, UNB Correspondent found some people but all of them were under the surveillance of vigilant administration.
People with proper reasons were permitted to enter the bazar scrutinized by several mobile courts, patrol teams, check posts administered jointly by police and army in the town.
Deputy Commissioner AKM Mamunur Rashid said they have been active in checking people’s entry from outside and put necessary check posts at different entry points.
“Vehicles except goods-carrying ones aren’t allowed to enter the district,” he said, adding that the vehicles that left with labourers for paddy harvesting in Sunamganj were also stopped from re-entering the town.
“Jointly we’ve been ensuring home quarantine of returnees after finding their current positions, maintaining social distancing, and controlling unnecessary outing in the district,” DC added.
The district is still free of the virus due to the fairness of internal management system and has been successful in raising mass awareness in this regard, he added.
Bangladesh has so far reported 175 deaths and 8,790 cases.
However, the government has decided to extend the ongoing general holidays again till May 16 in a bid to tamp down the spread of the deadly virus.
