The charland along the Gomti River in Munshiganj has turned into a sea of white as blooming kash flowers sway in the breeze against a backdrop of blue skies and drifting clouds.

The area around Pakhir Mor under Baushia union of Gazaria upazila is drawing visitors from nearby areas and beyond, with vast stretches of the river char now covered in the seasonal flowers.

During a recent visit, large patches of the char were found covered with blooming kash. The soft white plumes swayed gently in the wind, creating a striking contrast with the river water and surrounding green grass.

In the soft afternoon light, the flowers appear even more vivid. As the wind sweeps across the kash fields, the plumes move in unison, creating the illusion of waves rolling across the char from a distance.

The remnants of the monsoon are still visible. Water has not completely receded from the river and surrounding charlands, while the weather alternates between sunshine and clouds. Amid these changing conditions, the distinctive beauty of autumn is gradually emerging.

Kashfuls are one of the most recognisable features of autumn in Bangladesh. The grass-like plant usually grows on the alluvial soil along rivers, canals, wetlands and other water bodies towards the end of the monsoon and at the beginning of autumn.

Scientifically known as Saccharum spontaneum, kash is a tall grass with soft, fluffy white flowers. Its seasonal bloom has long been intertwined with Bengali culture and emotions.

Every autumn, images of white kash flowers swaying across village fields, river chars and wetland banks evoke a sense of the season’s arrival. The flower also carries a cultural association with the advent of Durga Puja.

At Pakhir Mor, that familiar autumn atmosphere has returned with the blooming kash fields along the Gomti.

Visitors are arriving with families, friends or alone to enjoy the scenery. Some pose for photographs among the flowers, while others sit beside the river and take in the calm afternoon surroundings.

Local residents said kash flowers begin to bloom every year after the monsoon waters start receding from the river char and surrounding open spaces.

The seasonal display attracts visitors from different places, turning the otherwise quiet riverside into a lively gathering spot.

Autumn seems to announce its arrival here without fanfare — through white kash flowers dancing in the breeze, blue skies appearing between clouds, shimmering river water and the scent of wet earth.

And it is this simple seasonal beauty that is drawing people to the banks of the Gomti, making Pakhir Mor an increasingly appealing destination for those seeking a glimpse of autumn in nature.
