PDB beat Bangladesh Ansar by 25-12, 25-11, 25-22 points in the opening Group B match while Titas Club outplayed Dhaka Sabuj by 25-10, 25-7, 25-12 points in the first Group A match in the afternoon.
Earlier, Additional Secretary of the Youth and Sports Ministry M Abdul Karim inaugurated the 14-day league in the afternoon, organised by Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF).
Managing Director and CEO of the league’s sponsor Popular Life Insurance Company Ltd BM Yousuf Ali and BVF general secretary Ashiqur Rahman Miku were also present on the occasion.
A total of 10 teams, split into two groups are taking part in the league.
Participating teams are:
Group A - Titas Club, Water Development Board (WDB), Police AC, Bangladesh Jail (Prison Directorate) and Dhaka Sabuj
Group B - Power Development Board (PDB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Wari Club, Azad SC and Bangladesh Ansar.
On completion of the league basis group matches, two top teams from each group will earn the right to play in the semifinals. Both the semifinals will be held on January 27 while the final is billed for January 28.
Thursday’s matches: PDB vs Police AC (2 pm), and BGB vs Wari Club (4pm).
