Youth and Sports Secretary of Ruling Bangladesh Awami League and veteran sports organizer Harun-ur-Rashid inaugurated the 24-team meet at a simple ceremony Tuesday morning.
BFF general secretary Abu NayemShohag, BSJA President MotaharHossainMasum, general secretary Raihan Al Mogni, Tournament Committee convener RakibulHasanand Tournament Secretary Arafat Jubair were also present on the occasion.
On the opening day (Tuesday), Jagonews crushed News24 by 6-0 goals, Bangla Vision beat Deepto TV by 1-0 goal, Daily Star defeated DBC TV also by 1-0 goal, Maasranga TV outplayed Dainik Sangbad by 3-1 goals, Boishakhi TV outplayed Ekushey TV by 3-0 goals while DainikSamakal trounced Somoy TV by 5-1 goals.
The day’s other two matches between Bangladesh Television and Channel 24, and Bangladesh Pratidin and Gazi TV ended in 1-1 draw.
A total of 24 media teams of different newspapers, news agencies, electronics and online media, split into eight groups, are initially taking part on the league basis matches from October 1-3.
Later, the group champions will play in the quarterfinals on October 4 and the two semifinals and final match will be held on October 5.
Participating teams are: Group A – Bangladesh Pratidin, Jugantor and Gazi TV
Group B – Jagonews 24.com, Bangla Tribune and News24
Group C- The Daily Star, KalerKantho and DBC TV
Group D – Channel 24, Channel i and Daily Ittefaq
Group E – Dhaka Tribune, Dainik Sangbad, Maasranga TV
Group F – Ekushey TV, BSS and Boishakhi TV.
Group G – Deepto TV, The Independent and Bangla Vision
Group H – Samakal, NayaDiganta and Somoy TV.
