A total of eighty schools, split into nine zones -- Chattogram, Cumilla, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Faridpur, Gopalganj and Khulna -- will compete in the preliminary round of the meet.
Top two teams from each zone will play in the final round scheduled to be held in February in Dhaka.
The participating teams will get participation money of Tk 10,000 each from sponsors FSIBL while the federation will provide hockey gears and jerseys for the players.
The champions will get Tk 1 lakh, the runners-up Tk 50,000, the third-placed team Tk 25,000 and the most disciplined team will get fair play trophy and Tk 10,000 as prize money.
Besides, 15 talented hockey players from each zone will undergo a long-term training under the supervision of BHF.
The BHF Acting General Secretary Mohammad Yousuf said, “The total budget for the meet is earmarked at Tk 1 crore where meet sponsor FSIBL will provide the entire amount. The meet is the part of our arrangements of Mujib Borsho.”
“We have decided to arrange some more competitions including Divisional Hockey for Women’s, Independence Cup, Shaheed Smrity Hockey, National Youth Hockey, Premier League Hockey and two International Hockey meets to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”.
“We are also taking part in the upcoming Bangladesh Games,” added Yousuf, who is also the secretary of the Organising Committee of School Hockey Tournament.
Meanwhile, BHF will host Bangabandhu Junior Under-21 Asia Cup Hockey’ in June, 2020 and Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in November 2020 marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
