The South African coach was in his home country during the Coronavirus lockdown. He recently came back to Dhaka to join the camp ahead of the Sri Lanka tour which will begin later this month. The battle will begin from October 24. It will be marked as Bangladesh’s first three-match Test series in six years.
As per the government instruction, every traveller coming to Bangladesh has to maintain a 14-day quarantine in order to see if he is suffering from Covid-19. But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had requested the health service to allow the foreign members of the coaching staff of Bangladesh cricket team to end their quarantine in seven days so that they can join the camp.
A BCB source confirmed that the health service has allowed Domingo and other foreign members of the coaching staff who came back to Dhaka recently to join training camp after a seven-day quarantine period. During this time, they had to undergo more than one Covid-19 test to make sure that they are free form the deadly virus.
Cricketers last played a competitive game back in March this year in the Dhaka Premeir Division Cricket League. They were stuck at home aiming to curve off the virus until the board arranged an individual training programme before Eid-ul-Adha.
Before the Eid, a few national team players joined the programme. The number of participating players in the ongoing programme increased after the Eid holidays, which was disrupted once when a member of the support staff tested positive of Covid-19. However, after a gap of five days, the programme resumed on September 9.
BCB will arrange a residential training programme for the players who are going to tour Sri Lanka from September 21. Before that, BCB will announce a preliminary squad within a few days, which will be trimmed later right before flying for Sri Lanka.
