7 Venues of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022

T20 World Cup 2022 will be hosted in seven nationwide stadiums. The following is the details of each stadium.

Adelaide Oval

Located in Adelaide, Adelaide Oval is the home of the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) and the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). The ground has a capacity of 53,500 and is one of the most significant grounds in Australia.

Though the ground was originally used for cricket. In 1871, the first South Australian Football match was played at the ground. Although the stadium was opened in 1871, it was reconstructed several times from 1888 to 2003. 

The 167 x 124 meters oval-shaped ground has a grassed playing surface, and there are two main grandstands, as well as general admission areas. There are also several function rooms and bars located within the stadium.

The Gabba

The Gabba is a historic stadium located in Brisbane. It is the home of the Brisbane Lions AFL team and has a capacity of approximately 42,000 spectators. However, the capacity for international cricket is 36,000. 

The stadium is well known for its large size and unique design, as well as its passionate and vocal fans. The Gabba has 170.6 meters (560 feet) (east-west) by 149.9 meters (492 feet) (north-south) playing field and features a variety of facilities, including function rooms, function spaces, player change rooms, and athlete, media, and corporate facilities. 

The Gabba level 4 has a unique retractable roof, which allows spectators to enjoy the game while having some drinks.

Kardinia Park

This stadium is located in the Geelong suburb of South Geelong, Victoria. Although Kardinia Park is a football stadium, this venue started hosting cricket in 2016. The ground is home to the Geelong Football Club and the Geelong Cats women’s team. 

The stadium has a seating capacity of 42,000, withstanding spectators on the hill behind the picket fence on both sides of the oval. The ground is well known for its large grandstands, which were redeveloped in 2003 and still going on. 

During the 1920s to 1930s, the oval was surrounded by a dirt track. Other facilities at Kardinia Park include function rooms, a conference center, a merchandise store, and a cafe. The ground is accessible by public transport and has a free parking facility throughout the Kardinia Park Precinct.

Bellerive Oval

Nestled on the eastern shore of Hobart, Bellerive Oval is one of Tasmania’s premier sporting venues. With a capacity of 19,500, the stadium is large enough to accommodate a variety of events, from cricket and football to concerts and festivals.

Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)

The Melbourne Cricket Ground, or “the MCG” as it is often called, is a large stadium located in Melbourne, Australia. With a capacity of over 100,000 people, it is the second largest cricket stadium in the world.

With approximately 62,000 capacity, Perth Stadium is one of the significant cricket venues in Australia and in the world. The specialty of the stadium is used for Australian rules football and cricket. 

The total size of the ground is 165 m × 130 m, covered with Synthetic stabilized turf. The features of the stadium are an open roofed dome, which covers most of the seats. With A$820.7 million, the stadium was opened in 2018. There is also a spectators’ plaza which offers views of the playing surface from outside the venue. The stadium has 50 food and beverage outlets, large TV screens, bars, and more facilities.

Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG)

Located in Sydney, the Sydney Cricket Ground is used for cricket, rugby union, and Australian rules football. The SCG has a capacity of 48,000 people.

The specialty of the stadium is that it has a grassed hill area where spectators can sit or stand to watch the game. The total area of the SCG is 16,556 square meters. The features of the stadium include an electronic scoreboard, higher-definition video screen lighting towers, and grandstands.
