Launched in 2019, the Reno series of phones has been the camera-focused flagship and mid-range devices from Oppo. The exclusive camera-centric approach with an affordable price tag made them an instant hit in certain GCC and Asian markets. Fast forward to 2022, there are new leaks and rumours about the latest from the series, the Oppo Reno 8. While the tentative release date of the device falls somewhere in June, leakers have slowly started to trick bits and pieces of the device to the masses. Here is everything we know so far about the latest flagship from OPPO.
Leaked and Rumoured Features of Oppo Reno 8
Design and Build Quality
Ever since the merger between Oppo and OnePlus, there has been increasing speculation about the similarities between each release of the company. This won’t be the first time, however. Previous iterations like the OnePlus 6 shared the same DNA as the Oppo R15. However, the Reno series never actually drew a parallel with the OnePlus. That is, until the Reno 8.

Almost all the leaks regarding the design and build quality point out that it will mostly resemble the OnePlus 10 Pro. To be more precise, the Reno 8 is the OnePlus 10 that never got released.
Up until the OnePlus 9 series, OnePlus always launched a vanilla model and a souped-up Pro or T variant. But with the OnePlus 10 series, the company launched a singular 10 Pro. Speculations suggest that after the merger, the OnePlus 10 was intentionally left out to make way for the Reno 8.
The build quality will remain mostly the same with the Reno 8. There will be a glass front and back design with an aluminium frame. The back camera module will also share the side-dropping design found on the OnePlus 10 Pro. So what exactly makes the Reno 8 different from the 10 Pro to call it a supposed 10 equivalent? The main difference is in the front.

Unlike the curved display on the OnePlus 10 Pro, the Reno 8 will feature a flat display with a slightly more prominent bezel. Other than that, the usual port and button selections will remain the same. We are still a long way off from the release date, so until any new leaks and renders drop, this is what’s expected from Oppo.
Display
Again the parallels on the display are drawn with the OnePlus 10 Pro as it is the only reference point for the Reno 8. But unlike the 10 Pro, the Reno 8 will sport a smaller FHD+ AMOLED panel. It might come with either a 90 Hz or 120 Hz refresh rate for a smooth transitional experience.
Given Oppo’s previous panel choices with the Reno 8, the device could be anywhere between a 6.43-inch panel or a 6.55 inch one. Though the former is the likely choice.

Not many details are known about the panel itself as everything else other than the design is in the speculative stage. But Oppo has a good track record of using quality panels so it shouldn’t disappoint the users.
Camera
The Oppo Reno 8 is expected to sport a triple camera setup on the back. Interestingly, there seems to be no collaboration between the Reno 8 cameras and Hasselblad even though some other models of Oppo and OnePlus are using colour calibration tech from the Swedish camera giants.
The primary lens of the device will be a 50 MP Sony IMX766 shooter. This is the same shooter found on the Realme 9 Pro+, OnePlus Nord 2 as well as Oppo Reno 7 Pro. Not much is known about the specifications of the other two lenses but tipster Digital Chat Station suggests that the remaining two lenses will be telephoto and an ultrawide one.

Speaking of the camera performance, the IMX766 itself is a very capable sensor. Photography, as well as videography, are on par with the upper mid-range devices on the market. But we will have to wait until the official release to get a hands-on idea as to how it performs on Oppo’s post-processing.
Processor and Performance
Not much is known about the processor of the Oppo Reno 8. Previous models of the Reno series have used the top-of-the-line chipset from either MediaTek or Snapdragon. Like the Oppo Reno 7 Pro used the Dimensity 1200 Max chip. So it is expected that the Reno 8 will sport the updated variant of the Dimensity 1200 chip or go with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
Since much of the elements of the Reno 8 corroborates with the OnePlus 10 Pro, it won’t be surprising to see the 8 Gen 1 onboard.

On the storage end, the base model could feature an 8/128 GB configuration with a max configuration of 12/256 GB. Though it's all on the speculative end at this point.
Moving onto the OS, the Reno 8 will feature Oppo’s proprietary Color OS based on Android 12. Combined with the fluid display and fast processors, users can expect an overall power-packed performance from the device.
Battery and Charge Time
Again almost nothing is known about the battery or the charge time of the Reno 8. But certain leaks point out that the phone might feature either a 4500 mAh or 5000 mAh battery. The phone is also expected to come with either 65 W or 80 W fast charging on board.

Expected Price of OPPO Reno 8
There isn’t any official price tag for the Reno 8 yet. The Reno 7 was priced in the Indian market at around Rs. 28,999. If the Reno 8 is to retain a similar price, Bangladeshi users can expect a price of around 32,975 BDT (1 INR=1.14 BDT). However, the price may differ depending on the specs, company policy, and tax.
Verdict
It’s still way too early to call shots on the Oppo Reno 8. Virtually nothing concrete is available on the device other than the design renders. However, the Reno phone has always been delivered as a camera phone. So if you are a camera enthusiast looking for a relatively cheap device, then the Reno 8 is definitely something to look forward to.
