Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi focuses on value additional devices since its inception. While the Mi lineup focuses on the higher mid-range to flagship devices, the Redmi line takes a budget to mid-range approach. Redmi’s latest 11 series brought a range of devices ranging from entry-level to mid-range segments. Xiaomi's Redmi 11 Prime was launched in India on 6th September 2022. Design and Build Quality

The design of the Redmi 11 Prime isn’t really reminiscent of the previous iterations. Redmi has always experimented with the design elements and users got a new design tone almost every year. This year, the 11 Prime is no different with its rectangular camera housing and diamond textured back.

The body of the 11 Prime is completely made out of plastic. This was no surprise given the budget and previous material choices from Redmi. But what came as a surprise is the Gorilla Glass 3 on the front. This is definitely something that will give an edge to 11 Prime against its competitors.

The usual ports and buttons are all here. Unsurprisingly the power buttons act as the fingerprint sensor and the 3.5 mm headphone jack also retains its place on the device. There’s no stereo speaker on the device but the bottom-firing speaker is quite loud and crisp.

The starting variant of the device comes with just a 64 GB ROM option. But thankfully, there’s an additional microSDXC slot to compensate for the onboard storage.

Redmi 11 Prime is available in three colors – playful green, flashy black, and peppy purple. The colors are as vibrant as their names. Overall, the Redmi 11 Prime doesn’t really reinvent anything. Instead, it makes the existing props better to put forth a value-for-money device, both design, and build-wise.

Display

The 6.58-inch display on the Redmi 11 Prime is an IPS LCD one with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The 90 Hz refresh rate isn’t actually controllable as Redmi optimizes this feature according to level-of-uasage. It's more like a dynamic refresh rate which will change depending on how the user interacts with the device.

The panel also boasts 400 nits brightness. While this isn’t technically very bright, outdoor legibility is still okay to some extent. But the 240Hz display looks much better indoors compared to outdoors.

Speaking of the quality itself, it’s a decent 1080P panel with a good pixel density. The colors look sharp and warm in a typical Redmi fashion. Viewing angles are also great. For a 1080P LCD panel, Xiaomi has really nailed it here.

The market for ultra-budget devices is already saturated. But it's no surprise that Redmi 11 Prime probably pulled off one of the best panels from the lot.

Camera

We have 3 sensors in the camera department. The main sensor is a 50 MP one with two additional 2 MP depth and macro sensors. In a typical budget marketing style, the two additional sensors are mostly for show and the “triple camera” tag. It's clear that almost all the tasks will fall on the main 50 MP sensor.

As things stand, the main lens of 11 Prime is a quite capable one. Pictures came out sharp with detailed dynamic range in outdoor shots. The portraits also look great with near-perfect edge detection. Pictures might look a bit warmer but that’s just Redmi’s post-processing.

The device can take decent shots on indoors and under artificial lights as well. Redmi uses variable aperture depending on the lighting condition and also changes the shutter speed. The result is a well-exposed image even in dimly lit conditions. Overall, the pictures can easily rival many mid-range devices even though it's an entry-level phone.

There aren’t any additional features like EIS or OIS on the main sensor. As a result, the videography of the Redmi 11 Prime is limited to just 1080P at 30 fps. The PDAF does a somewhat decent job at stabilizing. But it is nowhere near EIS level.

The front camera is an 8 MP selfie shooter. It does a good job of capturing details but it definitely could’ve been a wider sensor.

Processor and Performance

The processor is probably the biggest selling point of the Redmi 11 Prime. While most budget devices come with a 12 Nm architecture processor, the Redmi 11 Prime has a 6 Nm processor. The MediaTek Helio G99 processor comes with an octa-core 2 2.2 GHz Cortex-A76 and 6 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 processor design.

This is an absolute game changer since this is a processor which isn't available at this price point. The 6 Nm architecture brings improved efficiency and optimization which a 12 Nm processor simply can’t match. On top of that, MediaTek introduced HyperEngine 2.0 which brings additional optimization for gaming and processor-heavy tasks.

The result? Buttery smooth experience regardless of the tasks. You can easily game at high settings albeit at the cost of heating and battery drain. Day-to-day tasks run smoothly without any issues or heating.

To sum it up, the processor really changes how the budget segment devices perform and definitely ushered in a new era of performance at the entry-level price segment.

Battery and Charge Time

The Redmi 11 Prime comes with a 5000 mAh battery which will comfortably last the users an entire day of usage. There’s also a 22.5 W fast charger included in the device. However, the device can only support up to 18 W fast charging.

Price of Redmi 11 Prime 

Xiaomi Redmi 11 Prime is not officially available in Bangladesh yet. The base variant of the device comes in at 12,999 Rs which roughly amounts to 16,781 BDT (1 INR = 16,781 BDT). However, the price may change once the device becomes official in Bangladesh.

Xiaomi's Redmi 11 Prime brings subtle changes from its previous iterations. Most of these changes are internal as Redmi aims to meet the standards of 2022. In that process, the company brought in an excellent processor and display which will easily outshine any competitor in this price range.

However, the camera department could’ve done a bit better, especially in the videography segment. Other than that, Xiaomi’s Redmi 11 Prime is the perfect mix of price and performance under the budget range.
