The tech brand Xiaomi produces smartphones under diverse categories ranging from entry-level to flagship. The Redmi series phones are targeted for the budget-friendly segment. Redmi phones have gained huge popularity in the Bangladeshi market for their value-for-money features. Xiaomi has recently launched the Redmi 13. Featured with standard functionalities, the phone follows its predecessor’s design and build quality. But can it hold the legacy in performance? Let’s dive deep into the features, pros, cons, and price of Xiaomi Redmi 13.

Specs and Features of Xiaomi Redmi 13

Design

Like its predecessors, the Xiaomi Redmi 13 has come with another sleek and simple design. It measures 168.6 mm in height, 76.3 mm in width, and 8.3 mm in thickness. The weight is 205 grams.

The front and rear panels are made of glass. While the structure is built with a polycarbonate plastic frame. The phone comes in four colours: Midnight Black, Sandy Gold, Pearl Pink, and Ocean Blue. It has a hybrid dual SIM slot, allowing two Nano-SIM cards. The phone is IP53 rated, meaning it is dust and splash-resistant.

The back has a minimal design with a dual camera setup. The phone has an IR blaster, but it does not have secondary noise cancellation on the back.

The speaker quality is good. But in this price range, the manufacturer could provide a stereo speaker.

Display

The phone has a 6.79-inch FHD+ DotDisplay. The screen resolution is 2460 by 1080 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 396 ppi. The display type is an IPS LCD and can refresh at a rate of up to 90Hz. This makes movements on the screen look smooth.

The typical brightness of the screen is 450 nits, but it can reach 550 nits in High Brightness Mode (HBM). However, under direct sunlight, users may experience some difficulties. The provision of a higher brightness could make it easier to see in bright light.

The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, which helps prevent scratches. However, its thick bezels may disappoint some users.

The display has several special features. It includes a Reading Mode, which reduces blue light to make reading easier on the eyes. The display is TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light (Hardware Solution) certified, which means it reduces blue light exposure. It is also certified by TÜV Rheinland Circadian Friendly and Flicker-Free, helping reduce eye strain. Additionally, the screen uses DC dimming technology to adjust brightness smoothly.

It has Widevine L1 support which allows viewing of Netflix and other OTT contents at full HD graphics.

Cameras

In the camera section of Redmi 13, Xiaomi has brought significant changes. The ancestor Redmi 12 offered a 50 MP main sensor. While its selfie shooter was an 8MP camera.

The latest version Redmi 13 has two rear cameras. The main camera is a 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HM6 sensor with an f/1.75 aperture. This means it can take very detailed and clear photos. It has a 6P lens and can focus automatically.

The second camera is a 2-megapixel macro shooter, used for taking close-up photos, also known as macro shots. It has an f/2.4 aperture. However, Redmi 12's 8MP ultra-wide camera is missing in the Redmi 13 model.

The rear cameras come with features like LED flash and HDR mode, which helps to take better photos in different lighting conditions. The images captured by the rear sensors offer enough sharpness and detail without boosting extra colours or aggressing smoothing. The image quality is quite satisfactory considering its price range. The night mode allows for capturing good-quality images in low-light conditions.

The cameras can record HD videos at 1080p and 720p, both at 30 frames per second.

The front camera has 13 megapixels with an f/2.45 aperture, which is good for selfies. It also has HDR mode and can record HD videos at 1080p and 720p at 30 frames per second. The front camera includes a soft-light ring to improve lighting for selfies and has modes like portrait and time-lapse.

Performance and Hardware

The Xiaomi Redmi 13 runs on Android 14 with HyperOS. It has a MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra processor built on a 12nm process. The octa-core processor has 2 Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0 GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz. The graphics processing unit (GPU) is a Mali-G52 MC2, which handles graphics and games.

It comes in three configurations: 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. If you need more space, you can add a memory card up to 1TB.

For memory, the phone uses LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage. However, the provision of the UFS 2.2 data transfer technology could make Redmi 13 performance better.

The operating system and pre-installed apps use some of the storage and RAM, so the actual available memory will be a bit less. However, this phone is not free from ads and bloatware. The manufacturer promises two years of Android updates and 3-years of security updates which are praiseworthy.

Overall, the phone offers smooth performance for day-to-day light tasks. For gaming, you can play multiplayer games like PUBG at ultra-frame without significant frame drops. The heating issue is moderate like any other budget-friendly device.

Battery and Charger

The phone has a 5030mAh non-removable battery. It supports 33W fast charging through a USB Type-C port. This means the battery can charge quickly when using a compatible 33W charger. On average use, the phone can run for a day on a single full charge.
