Seven banks filed 4,305 cases against farmers over unpaid loans of around Tk 12.67 crore in the district.
According to District Agriculture Loan Monitoring Committee, the cases were filed till December 30.
“They did not pay back the loans despite frequent warnings,” said Md Shahajahan, deputy general manager of Sonali Bank Corporate Branch and member secretary of district agriculture loan monitoring committee.
“We’re cordial to borrowers but legal actions have been taken as per the government rules because they failed to pay back the loans,” he added.
Among the cases, 100 were filed by Sonali Bank, 77 by Janata Bank, 177 by Agrani Bank, 3,923 by Bangladesh Khrishi Bank, 15 by Rupali Bank and one by BDBL Bank.
