The arrestees are—general secretary of Muktijoddho Mancha’s central committee Al Mamun and its Dhaka University unit general secretary Yasir Arafat Turjo.
Obaidur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said DB police detained the duo but he didn’t disclose the cause of detention.
Meanwhile, Muktijoddho Mancha’s Dhaka University unit President Sonet Mahmud shared the information of detention on his Facebook wall.
He wrote,“DB police detained Muktijoddho Mancha’s central committee general secretary Al Mamun and its DU unit’s GS Yasir Arafat Turjo. We strongly condemn it.”
“We want the real offenders to be brought under justice,” he wrote adding “It is expected that no one would be made scapegoat over the incident.”
He urged the authorities to identify the attackers from the video footages available in media and bring them to book .
Earlier, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obidul Quader informed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had instructed the authorities concerned to take action against those who assaulted DucsuVP NurulHaqueNur and others.
Meanwhile, several hundred students under the banner of Students Unity Against Repression (SantrashBirodhiChhatraOikya) gathered in front of Raju sculpture and gave the authorities 24 hours to arrest the attackers.
Earlier on Sunday, at least 23 students, including DUCSU VPNurulHaqueNur, were injured in the attack while six of them including Nur, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
One of the injured – Farabi – was taken to Intensive Care Unit as his condition deteriorated, said the hospital authorities.
