Dhaka, Nov 25 (UNB) - Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Hiroyasu Izumi has said Bangladesh is now focused as a country of tremendous potential for development and attracting more and more foreign companies for investment.   “We’ll nurture our flower of friendship and will enhance bilateral relations towards the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2022, including even higher level exchanges,” he said.   Ambassador Izumi was addressing a reception at his residence on Saturday marking the birthday of the Japanese Emperor.   Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal attended it as the chief guest. Diplomats, editors and civil society representatives also joined the programme.   Ambassador Izumi said, “The seed of friendship we inherited has germinated, grown up and now is likely to bloom beautifully.”   Highlighting frequent mutual visits at ministerial level, he said they will have more and more such visits next year.   The Ambassador said Bangladesh and Japan are time-tested friends since the independence of Bangladesh, and have walked together for the bright future of two countries.   He said they have committed to contributing to this country’s development to materialise the dream of Bangladesh, ‘Sonar Bangla’.   Japan has always been the single biggest bilateral donor for Bangladesh, said the Japanese diplomat.   The amount of ODA towards Bangladesh is around two hundred billion yen (equivalent to US$ 1.8 billion) this year, which records the largest ever Yen Loan support to Bangladesh for one year.   Japan’s ODA to Bangladesh has increased rapidly that Bangladesh is now the second largest recipient of Japan’s ODA in the world, next to India.   The Ambassador said this fact also attracts Japanese companies to Bangladesh increasingly.    He said they would be grateful if Bangladeshi people choose Japan as the next destination for their visit.   Japanese people have already got happy news from Paris that Osaka is elected as the host city of World Expo 2025.
