A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Par Karamja in Satthia upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sobhan, 40, son of Abdur Rashid of Karamja Sardarpara village.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 pm, said Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, superintendent of Pabna Police.
Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self-defense.
Sobhan was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injury while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Bera Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Two policemen were injured during the gunfight.
Sobhan was wanted in eleven criminal cases, said police.
One shutter gun, one cartridge, one sharp weapon, two mobile phone sets and a small amount of hemp and heroin were recovered from the possession of Sobhan, he said.
