The authorities have decided to allow goods-laden vessels use the Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry route on trial basis.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury made the disclosure on Saturday noon,
on a visit to the areas of the ferry ghat damaged by erosion.
In the wake of erosion threat triggered by heavy current in the Padma River, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) on Friday evening suspended ferry operation on the route.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Shimulia ferry ghat witnessed a massive erosion with one of its terminals, a mosque, a shop along with vast swathes of land disappearing into the river.
Secretary to Shipping Ministry Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, BIWTC Chairman Khaja Mia, BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq, among others, were present at the occasion.
