Some 6,632 hectares of paddy fields were submerged in Sariakandi upazila on Monday as the Jamuna River swelled and broke its banks following incessant rainfall over the past few days.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdul Halim confirmed the matter, adding approximately 50,000 residents in the area were grappling with waterlogging.
Bogura Water Development Board (WDB) officials said the Jamuna was flowing a whopping 62 centimeters above the danger level in the afternoon, and more areas might get flooded if the river keeps swelling.
Six out of 12 unions within Sariakandi upazila were flooded: Chaluabari, Kornibari, Kutubpur, Chandanbaisha, Kajla Kamalpur and Sadar, said the Executive Engineer of local WDB office.
Besides, some areas of Dhunat upazila also went under water.
