The victim was identified as Mohammad Osman Shikdar, 40, organising secretary of Sabrang union unit of Jubo League, and son of Mohamamd Ali of the upazila.
Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said the miscreants intercepted Osman while he was going to a local mosque for saying Fazr prayers in the morning and opened fire on him, leaving him injured.

He was then taken to local hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Family members of the victim said Osman had an altercation with former UP member Mohammad Abdullah alias Khulu member and Kefayet Ullah over the stealing a human-hauler on December 27.
At one stage of altercation, they attacked Osman and beat him up over the issue on that day.
Later, Osman lodged a complaint with Teknaf Police Station.

Police suspect that the miscreants might have killed Osman following the incident as they attacked Osman on December 27. They are also wanted in many criminal cases, including Yaba and human trafficking.
Police sent his body to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
