Adviser Nahid Islam has hinted that students who took part in the July Uprising are on the verge of floating a new political party, adding that a final decision on this matter will likely be announced by the end of this week.
He made the statement while responding to reporters' questions after the 11th and final session of the Deputy Commissioners' Conference on Monday (February 17) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.
Nahid Islam said, "I have expressed my position on this matter in various media outlets. However, I believe the way the information is coming out in different newspapers and media is not appropriate. Such information should not be spread based on assumptions before any formal decision is made."
Nahid hints at leaving govt role to join new political party
He added, "Those outside, who are against discrimination... The Nagarik Committee had spoken about initiating a political party a while ago, before February. I have said that there is a possibility I might join that party. If that happens, I will formally resign from the government and join it. I haven't made a final decision on that yet, but there is a possibility. Perhaps by the end of this week, I will be able to announce a final decision."
There are various unconfirmed reports that Nahid Islam will be the convener of the new political party formed by the students who participated in the July Uprising.
