“It’s essential to maintain peace in the country. We’ll have to protect our society from militancy, terrorism or corruption and drug. Then we can use the talent of the young generation for development,” she said.
The Prime Minister said this while opening two newly-constructed houses and an officers’ mess for the members of Director General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), said PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim at a press briefing.
She opened the two 14-storey houses and a modern seven-storey officers’ mess in Dhaka Cantonment area through a videoconference from her official residence Ganobhaban.
Pointing at the DGFI members, Sheikh Hasina asked them to discharge their duties sincerely for the wellbeing of people.
The Prime Minister asked them to know the history of Bangladesh, love the country and work for it and its people, saying that she learnt it (to work for people) from her parents. “I always want this (working for people).”
Hasina said the armed forces are very essential to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had built the war-ravaged country on one hand and developed the armed forces properly on the other, she added.
The Prime Minister said the goal of her government is to make Bangladesh a hunger- and poverty-free, developed and prosperous country as dreamt by the Father of the Nation.
Director General of DGFI Major General Mohammad Saiful Alam delivered the welcome speech.
PM’s Security Adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Defence Secretary Dr Md Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal and PMO Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah were present at the function.
