The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday asked Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub to appear before it on August 20 as he allegedly made derogatory remarks about Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and judiciary on Facebook.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order.
The SC also issued a rule seeking explanation as to why legal action should not be taken against the lawyer on charge of contempt of court over his comment.
Mamun Mahbub will have to respond to the rule through a video conference on August 20.
Earlier, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam raised the issue before the bench on Wednesday.
Syed Mamun Mahbub said, "I used a wrong word about the Chief Justice in a Facebook status. I have already deleted the status from my Facebook wall.”
“I posted another status offering apology. I will appear before the court on August 20 and will offer unconditional apology for my mistake," he said.
