A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced two members of banned militant group Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to life imprisonment in a case filed over the 2005 series bomb blast.
Jhalakathi Special Tribunal Judge Sheikh Md Tofayel Hasan delivered the verdict.
The court also jailed the duo for 10 years on another charge under the Explosive Substance Act.
The convicts were identified as Ziaur Rahman Zia, 40, of Bikon area of Jhalakathi district town and Md Farid, 30, of Boidarapur village of Sadar upazila.
According to case statement, a number of bombs went off at Upazila Parishad, in front of the Lawyer’s Association near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, near District Judge’s Court, Jhalakathi Press Club and Bikna human hauler (Tempu) terminal between 11am and 2pm on August 17, 2005.
Officer-in-charge of Jhalakathi Police Station Sohrab Ali filed a case over the matter.
